As we go into the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow, I’d like to wish you and your family a happy holiday season! Also, in the spirit of “wellness Wednesday”, I’d like to take a bit of time today to look at a wellness approach to the big Thanksgiving meal we are mostly accustomed to. Here are a list of things you can do to be well for the holiday…
* Mindful eating- enjoy your food, absolutely! That being said, be mindful about your body’s fullness response and eat slowly to give your body time to register it’s fullness as well as digest the food properly.
* Don’t forget to balance your holiday plate with lots of colorful foods – those foods are the most rich in vitamins our bodies need. Try hitting up the veggie platter or adding an extra serving of green bean casserole instead of mashed potatoes.
* Take a walk after the big meal and stay hydrated during the day.
* Practice gratitude – we all know that Thanksgiving is all about appreciating all the many blessings in our life. Take some time to really think on what’s most important to you and revolve your life around those things.
Remember the holiday is about enjoying time with loved ones and being thankful. Finding a balance between enjoying the festivities and taking care of yourself is key to maintaining wellness during Thanksgiving.
